Event Primer

Northern Arizona Territory...
As Stanton Tinley drifts off to sleep for what seems to be the first time in weeks, he hears
the rattling of spurs across his front porch. A knock at the door brings him out of his slumber
and grabbing for his trusty rifle positioned safely against his night stand. Wilma Tinley,
Stanton's wife, gazes at Stanton with obvious concern. "Not again Stan", she whispers.
"Mr. Tinley, its Sheriff Rufford. Got an order from Judge Havlin."
As Stanton opens the front door, Rufford pushes the judges orders in his face, "You have until
morning to vacate this land. Mr. Hatch is the rightful owner and you and the missus need to go
back where you all came from. Good day sir."
Jerrod Brainard, the lead ranch hand on Tinley Ranch rounds the corner of the house just as
Sheriff Rufford rides away. "What's gone on, Mr. Tinley? What's that bastard here fer?"
"Looks like Hatch has made his way into Havlin's back room. Round up the boys Jerrod, we're
gonna need all the help we can muster. They'll be here by sun up and we better be ready and
God only knows how many there will be."
Back at Oren Hatch’s Ranch…
“Oren, I am not sure I can let you use that deed I signed today”, proclaims Judge Havlin.
“Gonna have to take that up with the Sheriff, Sam. The papers have been delivered and that
land belongs to me now”, replies Oren with a wry smile on his face.
“We really should be worrying about the Cowboy Gang making their way to this town and stop this
squabbling”, a tired and weary Judge Havlin declares.
“That’s an old tale and one you should let go of you old coot”, Oren responds as he puffs away
on his cigar.
Later that evening…
Barely able to remain on his stool, Judge Havlin calls the bartender for one more round, his
hands shaking as he signs yet one more deed for the day. “Coot? Who's that somebitch calling
an old coot?”
“Joe!” he yells. “You got that old special bourbon back there still?”
“Sure thing Sam”, Joe responds as he slides Havlin’s special bottle down the bar. The bottle
slides past Havlin and crashes on the floor at the same time Havlin himself falls to the ground.
Joe ducks under the bar and rushes to Havlin’s side. “Sam! Sam! You alright judge? You gotta get
home.”
“Take this Joe. It’s exactly what this town and Stanton need to end this once and for all”,
Havlin slurs as he passes to the great beyond, his heart collapsing in his chest. Havlin is
dead.
Sunrise at the Tinley Ranch…
Joe rides at full speed directly to the main house at Tinley Ranch. A shot fires out as he
approaches and hits him square in the chest. Instantly Joe falls from his horse, his head
slamming against the porch as he lands. Dead before he hit the ground, his hand still
clutching the deed Judge Havlin signed moments before his own untimely death. The deed that
makes Stanton Tinley the legal owner of Oren Hatch’s ranch…
